About Our Theatre
Is there a dress code?
There is no specific dress code, just come as you are. We do however, encourage you to dress appropriately for the theatre— shirts and shoes, etc.
What is your policy on photography/videography?
No photography or videography, unless offered with express permission, is permitted during performances. Any discovered photography will be asked to be deleted immediately. However, please feel free to take photos or videos before and after performances.
What is the theatre’s seating capacity?
San Francisco Playhouse is an intimate space seating 199 comfortably. You can take a closer look at our seating chart here.
Where can I find San Francisco Playhouse merchandise?
We offer tote bags and hats for all your sartorial needs. Merchandise can be purchased at concessions.
Are outside food and beverages permitted into the venue?
No outside food and beverages are allowed in the theatre. We offer a selection of alcohol, non-alcoholic beverages, and concessions inside the venue.
Are alcoholic beverages allowed in the theatre?
Beverages purchased at San Francisco Playhouse can be brought into the theatre, as long as they are kept off of the mezzanine railing. As with any establishment serving alcoholic beverages, San Francisco Playhouse reserves the right of refusal of service at any time. No outside alcohol is allowed.
Does the bar host a happy hour at the theatre?
The Bar typically features our signature Happy Half-Hour from house open (an hour prior to curtain) to 30-minutes prior to curtain. Following that, prices rise slightly, so join us early! We also frequently offer a post-show Happy Hour, but that will vary by performance and are generally not offered for Saturday matinees.
Do you offer concessions at the theatre?
Concessions can be purchased at the bar before the show and during intermissions. We offer snack food and very small bites. We allow patrons to bring anything you purchase with you into the theater. We accept cash and credit card.
Is there a coat/bag check in the venue?
We offer a coat check with a suggested donation of $5 per item! Space is very limited, so please arrive early. Space for any large items is not guaranteed. Please ask for further information at the box office.
Where are your restrooms located?
All of our restrooms are all-gender inclusive. The main restrooms are located on the main floor/orchestra level, and there are additional restrooms located on the mezzanine floor, accessible via the stairs or elevator.
Where are the water fountains located?
These are located outside the men’s bathroom in our lobby.
Are there elevators in the theatre?
Elevators are available. They are located behind the concierge desk at the Kensington. “Floor 2” is the button to push for Box Office/Orchestra level; Button “2M” will take you to mezzanine level, where our wheelchair accessible seats are located.
Is the theatre accessible to patrons with disabilities?
The theater is equipped with ADA approved seating on mezzanine level, accessible via elevator; all orchestra seats require walking up a small flight of stairs. The theatre is equipped with ADA listening devices. You may obtain one at the Box Office prior to curtain. They are over-the-ear devices amplified by our sound system, or you may bring your own headphones with a standard headphone jack (3.5mm). We offer these free of charge, but you must provide ID as collateral during the performance. If you are able to move from a mobility assistance vehicle such as a wheelchair or scooter, House Management is happy to store it for the duration of the performance.
Are animals allowed inside?
Licensed service dogs are welcome on leash into the theater, otherwise we ask you to leave your furry friends at home.
Does the Kensington Park Hotel offer any promotions for San Francisco Playhouse patrons?
The Kensington Park Hotel offers a 15% discount to San Francisco Playhouse patrons if you stay with them! Let them know that you are coming to watch a show when booking your hotel in order to receive the discount.
Getting Here
How can I get to the theatre?
San Francisco Playhouse is only a 4 block walk from Powell St. BART/MUNI station. There is a loading and unloading zone directly in front of the theatre if you are arriving by cab or rideshare. Click here for information on Directions and Parking.
Where do you recommend I park?

How can I contact the Box Office?
Our Box Office is located on the Second Floor of the Kensington Park Hotel (450 Post Street at Powell, San Francisco, CA, 94102) Office hours are Tuesday-Friday, 1:00pm-6:00pm for walk-ups and phone reception. We are dark Mondays as well as some Federal Holidays.
What is your refund and exchange policy?
Tickets are non-refundable. Non-subscriber tickets may be exchanged at the discretion of the Box Office and will incur an exchange fee. Subscriber tickets are always exchangeable, however. Contact the Box Office for details.

Do you offer tours of the venue?
Small group tours may be available to your group. Please contact the Box Office for more details.

How can I subscribe?
Subscribing is easy and saves you money! Choose a day of the week you’d like to join us for our full mainstage season and we will assign you dates that can be exchanged at any time. How can I donate?
We make it easy for you to donate at any time: you can donate on our website, over the phone, or in person at our subscription/donation booth when you join us for the show. Every little bit helps, and we are a 501©3 non-profit organization, so your donation is always tax-deductible.
