ABOUT THE CREATORS

Stephen Sondheim (Music and Lyrics) wrote the music and lyrics for Saturday Night (1954), A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum (1962), Anyone Can Whistle (1964), Company (1970), Follies (1971), A Little Night Music (1973), The Frogs (1974), Pacific Overtures (1976), Sweeney Todd (1979), Merrily We Roll Along (1981), Sunday in the Park with George (1984), Assassins (1991), Passion (1994) and Road Show (2008) as well as lyrics for West Side Story (1957), Gypsy (1959) and Do I Hear a Waltz? (1965) and additional lyrics for Candide (1973). Anthologies of his work include Side By Side with Sondheim (1976), Marry Me a Little (1981), You’re Gonna Love Tomorrow (1983), Putting it Together (1993/99) and Sondheim on Sondheim (2010). He composed the scores of the films “Stavisky” (1974) and “Reds” (1981) and songs for “Dick Tracy” (1990) and the television production “Evening Primrose” (1966). His collected lyrics with attendant essays have been published in two volumes: “Finishing the Hat” (2010) and “Look, I Made A Hat” (2011). In 2010 the Broadway theatre formerly known as Henry Miller’s Theatre was renamed in his honor.

James Lapine (Book) has also worked with Stephen Sondheim on Passion as well as the recent Broadway show, Sondheim on Sondheim. He also directed the first revival of Merrily We Roll Along at LaJolla Playhouse in 1985. With William Finn he has collaborated on Falsettos, A New Brain, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and the soon to be produced Little Miss Sunshine. Other Broadway credits: The Diary of Anne Frank, Golden Child, and Amour. He has written the plays: Table Settings; Twelve Dreams; Luck, Pluck & Virtue; The Moment When; Fran’s Bed; and Mrs. Miller Does Her Thing.

Maureen McVerry

Maureen McVerry

Maureen McVerry Sunday is Miss McVerry’s third show at San Francisco Playhouse. She performed in Coraline and in Into the Woods. A member of Equity since 1984, Miss McVerry has received several TCCBA awards and nominations for her work at ACT, SJ Stage and Rep, Center Rep, Marin Theatre Company, Theatre on the Square and many musicals at 42nd St Moon in SF.  In addition to her work as an actor, Maureen performs a solo show regularly since 1993.  Love Will Kick Your Ass, her most recent show, discussed the unexpected death of her husband, Rick Alber. A member of SAG and AFTRA, Miss McVerry has been in 11 feature films and has an amazing turn as the Olsen twins’ teacher in Full House. In San Mateo County she is an award winning Arts Educator as a Director of 25 middle school musicals. Always for Rick.

Michelle Drexler

Michelle Drexler

Michelle Drexler is elated to be back at the Playhouse for her fourth summer!  Previous Playhouse credits include Company, Into the Woods, and Camelot.  Michelle was last seen as Henrietta Leavitt in Silent Sky at the Jewel Theatre in Santa Cruz.  Other regional credits include: Rags and Emma (Theatreworks), Imaginary Comforts (u/s Berkeley Rep), Hedda Gabler and Avant GardARAMA! (Cutting Ball Theater), Harry Thaw Hates Everybody (Shotgun Players), Spelling Bee (Berkeley Playhouse), Julius Caesar (SF Shakes on Tour), Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing (Kingsmen Shakespeare Company), King Lear (Great River Shakespeare Festival), and Tonya and Nancy: The Rock Opera (American Repertory Theatre).  She played sold out houses in San Francisco and New York with her twin sister Lily in A Very Drexler Cabaret and they are currently shooting an original comedy web series (more at www.DrexlerTwins.com). Sam Faustine

Sam Faustine

Sam Faustine performs a variety of genres ranging from Baroque Opera to Modern Musical Theater. Sam has recently performed the roles of Boyar Kruschov in Boris Godunov (San Francisco Symphony) Anthony in Sweeney Todd (SJ Stage), Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors (Ray of Light Theatre), Curly in Oklahoma (Broadway by the Bay), The Roasted Swan in Carmina Burana (SJ Sinfonia, Awesöme Orchestra) and many leading roles with Lamplighters Music Theatre – favorites include Candide, Frederick, Robin and Fairfax. Sam sings counter-tenor in addition to tenor, and is an active member of the Bay Area’s choral and sacred music communities, singing often with San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Grace Cathedral, Volti, Cappella SF, and many other local ensembles. Ayelet Firstenberg

Ayelet Firstenberg

Ayelet Firstenberg returns for her third Playhouse show after playing Connie in this season’s The Effect and performing in last season’s She Loves Me. Off-Broadway credits include Pinkalicious and Angelina Ballerina at Vital Theatre. Bay Area credits include Stephen Schwartz’s The Prince of Egypt at TheatreWorks (world premiere); Noises Off at Pacific Coast Rep; The Wild Party at Ray of Light;Vignettes on Love at PlayGround; and The Red Demon at Theatre of Yugen. She has appeared in workshops and staged readings at ACT, Shotgun Players, Golden Thread, PlayGround, and Custom Made. Elliott Hanson

Elliott Hanson is thrilled to be making his San Francisco Playhouse debut with this doozy of a show! Previous credits include Parade (Huntington Theatre Company), Charlie Cox Runs With Scissors (Edinburgh Fringe), Seeds (Utopia Theatre Project), You Are My Sunshine (Alma Theatre Company), The Children’s Hour (Ross Valley Players), Les Miserables (Marin Summer Theater), and a staged reading of The Soap Myth in a Marin Theatre Company co-production. He recently organized and performed in a traveling musical theatre showcase throughout Spain. He is a graduate of Boston University and a Bay Area native. Happy to have you joining us on the island of La Grande Jatte for a wee bit!

Ryan Drummond

Ryan Drummond

Ryan Drummond A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Mr. Drummond has been making a living at this acting/singing thing for 24 years and counting. In that time, he’s been in a world premiere play written by Aaron Sorkin, made three albums with his acappella group (The A.Y.U. Quartet), became a certified trainer of Polish and French mime, juggled for orcas and otters at Sea World of San Diego, harmonized mid-ocean on Regency Cruise Lines, didn’t make the cheer squad in Bring It On, nearly had his nose blown off by a confetti cannon in Kauai, was the original voice of “Sonic The Hedgehog” in millions of videogames across the world, is a member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA, and AGVA, and has been doing theatre constantly since 1980 when he was cast in his first show. Abby Haug

Abby Haug

Abby Haug is proud to return to the San Francisco Playhouse this summer.  She was last seen on the Playhouse stage this past holiday season as the Mother in A Christmas Story. Other Playhouse credits include La Cage Aux Folles as a Cagelle and the loving Jenny in Company. Abby graduated With Honors from Webster University’s Conservatory of Musical Theatre in St. Louis. Her latest Bay Area credits include No, No, Nanette, Baker Street and The Boys From Syracuse (42nd Street Moon), Mary Poppins (Hillbarn Theatre) and A Comedy of Errors (Marin Shakespeare) where she helped orchestrate a musical version of the play and accompanied the production on piano. Don’t put it past her to dress up like a French Cruller in Lifeline Theatre’s (Chicago) original adaptation of Arnie The Doughnut (2012 NYMT Festival). She is a very proud member of Actors’ Equity Association.

Xander Ritchey

Xander Ritchey is thrilled to be returning back to San Francisco Playhouse as Boatman. He’s currently finishing his MFA in Acting at UC, Irvine’s Grad program. He’s been seen in the Bay Area at Marin Shakespeare Company and at San Francisco Playhouse and looks forward to expanding his career more here once out of school. He thanks his dear mentor and friend Dr. Katie Whitlock and dedicates every performance on stage in her memory.

Corrie Farbstein

Corrie Farbstein is a Bay Area Native, enthusiastic about making her debut with San Francisco Playhouse! Recent favorites include Peter in Palo Alto Player’s Peter Pan, Sheila in Landmark Theatre’s Hair, and PCRT’s Rock of Ages (Dance Captain/Sherrie U/S). Corrie is equally passionate about helping people feel more at home in their bodies. She teaches at Maiden Lane Studios, utilizing her Pilates certification (BASI), her certification in Fascial Stretch Therapy, and her studies as a Dance Major at Chapman University and California Institute of the Arts. Next up is a move to the big apple for a dip into the unknown!

William Giammona

William Giammona is a veteran of musicals and plays around the Bay Area, having performed leading roles in over 60 productions in the last 15 years. He was honored with the 2014 TBA Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Principal Role in a Musical for playing Frank Shepard in Merrily We Roll Along.
